Reading Challenge

Mrs Madden's Phonics Challenge

Please introduce the letter sound "ff" explain to the children that these letter sounds can be found in the middle or the end of a word. Please watch the video by clicking on the link below.

Please practise saying the words that have the "ff" sound in the middle or at the end of a word. 

For the children that would like to have a try at writing three and four letter words please practise the following:

Off, huff, puff, iff, and cliff.

Please continue to practice all previous sounds covered which are, s, a, t, p, i, n, m, d, g, o, c, k, ck, e, u, r, h, b, f.

Please do not worry if your child seems to struggle with finger spaces and capital letters, it takes lots of practise and patience. As long as they are hearing most of the sounds that you are giving to them and they can write the corresponding letter sound down, they are doing a fantastic job!!

Please ask the children to talk about things that begin with the letter f sound.

For the children beginning to write three letter words can they please practise writing words that begin with the letter f sound for example: fun, fit, fog and fan.

Please also continue to revise all previous letter sounds: s, a, t, p, i, n, m, d, g, o, c, k, ck, e, u, r, h, b.

You could also play a game together where you can make flashcards with letter sounds on, place them all on a table and if they can say the letter sound on the card they get to keep the the card, if not they have to put the card back down and the person with the most cards at the end is the winner.

Please introduce the letter sound b, you can watch the video with Scrap on Discovery Espresso (link provided below) then ask the children to independently think of words that begin with the letter b sound.

For the children who are beginning to write three letter words, please continue to write words beginning with the letter b for example: bin, big, bus and bat.
